Mouth Guards

Children, teens and even adults experience thousands of mouth injuries every year while playing sports. No matter your sport or activity, and whether it is contact or non-contact, injuries to the face can harm your teeth, lips, cheeks and gums. Mouth guards should be considered an essential part of yours and your children’s equipment in order to avoid these injuries.

There are three types of mouth guards offering varying levels of comfort and protection.

Stock Mouth Guard: The ready-made or stock mouth guard is inexpensive and can be purchased in any sporting good store. Unfortunately, not much can be done to adjust their fit, they are bulky, they may make breathing difficult and they offer minimal protection.

Boil and Bite Guards: These can also be purchased in most sporting good stores. These guards are put in boiling water and then formed to the mouth. While they do provide a better fit than stock mouth guards, they can also be bulky, and fit and protection are not as good as a custom guard.

Custom Mouth Guard: Custom guards are created from an impression done in our office. We highly recommend a custom mouth guard for the greatest comfort, fit and protection of your mouth.

Night Guards

Do you wake up with a sore jaw or a dull headache? You may be grinding your teeth while you sleep. This is a condition is called bruxism and affects about 10 to 15 percent of adults, according to the American Dental Association. In addition to the discomfort you may be experiencing, bruxism can cause long-term damage including chipping and cracking of your teeth. One of the most common ways to alleviate the effects of bruxism is by wearing a night guard. We will create this custom guard from an impression taken of your teeth. This guard will prevent your teeth from grinding together and relieve the strain in your jaw muscles.

"It may be seldom one uses the words root canal and pleasant in the same sentence but that sums up my experience yesterday. Dr. Taylor and his competent assistant performed a root canal that was painless, relaxed (for me) and yes, pleasant. Every staff member I met was friendly and helpful. How refreshing. Thank you!"

Richard K. Richard K.
